AMD Awareness Resources

In 2010, the Foundation Fighting Blindness is joining with the AMD Alliance International and organizations from 25 countries around the world to increase awareness of age-related macular degeneration and the options that are available to prevent and treat this disease. AMD is the leading cause of blindness among adult Canadians. Sept 18-26, 2010 is AMD Awareness Week.

To help people get the information they need, the Foundation Fighting Blindness has updated its online AMD Information Centre with new information about how and why AMD causes vision loss. This online resource also describes the treatments that exist today – and those currently being tested in research studies. The FFB continues to support new research to understand and prevent AMD, and to translate this knowledge into additional treatments.

Is there someone in your life who needs to know more about AMD and the options available? Click on the image below to send them a personalized AMD Awareness Card to let them know you are thinking about them!

People living with AMD and their caregivers are also invited to attend one of three Vision Quest patient conferences being held in Calgary, Ottawa and Toronto in October. Learn more about these conferences here – and register online today.

Other Resources

The AMD Alliance International and the Foundation Fighting Blindness have also created other resources to mark AMD Awareness Week from Sept. 18-26. Please consider using these resources to alert people to the impact of AMD in your community - and the possiblities available to prevent and treat it.
