Vision Quest 2009 a Great Success!

Thanks to the dedication of our expert speakers, volunteers and the support of 750 attendees, Vision Quest 2009 offered another great year of information and hope!

And a special thanks to our proud sponsor CIBC for their generous sponsorship! We would also like to thank TELUS for generously donating the venue in Vancouver and the University of Alberta for donating the venue space in Edmonton.

Vision Quest 2009 took place in Toronto (Oct. 3), Vancouver (Oct. 24), and Edmonton (Nov. 7).  It delivered relevant information and education to patients and their families from top Canadian eye researchers.

This year’s conference covered topics such as being an advocate for your eye health, nutritional therapies, and emerging treatments for retinal dystrophies. Audio versions of each presentation are now online, please visit the Vision Quest main page to listen to the audio files from the city of your choice.

In addition to research information, this year the conference featured an inspirational key note speaker in each respective city, to offer hope and encouragement to everyone affected by vision loss. Erin George, delivered a powerful and emotionally charged message of encouragement to everyone at the Toronto conference to take their passion, frustration, their anger and put it into action. Heather Challmie encouraged patients in Vancouver to maintain a sense of positivity and a sense of humor as a crucial way to help cope with vision loss. And Norma Bastidas enthralled attendees in Edmonton with her incredible 777 Run for Sight journey.

Attendees also got reacquainted with the FFB’s signature events, Comic Vision (www.comicvision.ca) and Ride for Sight (www.rideforsight.com), along with hearing about the FFB’s newest fundraiser, Cycle for Sight (www.cycleforsight.ca), who in its first year raised $84,000. For a recap of the FFB’s signature events please turn to pg. 12. Many other exhibitors attended this year’s conference, along with the CNIB Toronto (www.cnib.ca); Aroga, low vision specialists (www.aroga.ca); and two young artists, Yvonne Felix and Becky Roy, who donated a portion of their art sales to the Foundation.

Thanks to everyone who was part of Vision Quest 2009! For those attendees who missed out on the opportunity to provide feedback at the conference you can do so at info@ffb.ca.
