Blindness Launches Unique Calgary Running Event

CALGARY, AB – Calgary runners will take to the pathways of the Bow River this fall in support of the Foundation Fighting Blindness (FFB) and its pursuit of treatments and cures for inherited, degenerative forms of blindness. The Run for Sight is an exciting new 5km run/walk event that will raise awareness and funding for the FFB in support of the scientific breakthroughs that are happening at Canadian hospitals and universities.

The inaugural Run for Sight will take place in September 2010 and will follow a picturesque 5km course along the Bow River, starting and finishing at Eau Claire Park. Scheduled for 12:30pm on Thursday, September 16, the event will be a unique, weekday run that will look to engage and unite the Calgary corporate community similar to Toronto’s Bay Street Rat Race for the United Way.

“We are thrilled to announce this fantastic new fundraising initiative,” commented Run for Sight Event Chair and FFB Board Member Dagmar Jamieson. “The event will be a great way for Calgarians, particularly within the downtown business community, to get out for a mid-day workout while supporting a very worthy cause that impacts so many families in our community.”

Early bird registration for the Run for Sight is $30 and is available at www.runforsight.ca or www.events.runningroom.com

About the Foundation Fighting Blindness

The Foundation Fighting Blindness (FFB) is a national private charity funding vision research to find the causes, treatments and cures for inherited, degenerative forms of blindness. Since its inception in 1974, the FFB has funded dozens of research discoveries at universities and hospitals across Canada to identify the causes of genetic forms of blindness. Today, these discoveries have helped bring scientists to this very exciting time in vision research, translating knowledge into treatments to restore the gift of sight.
